Million Acre Farm Excursion
Today you’ll experience the most rural part of PEI and discover why many call it the “million acre farm”, and “the gentle island” as well as why it is home to “44 shades of green”.
As we set off on our travels today, we’ll be looking for blue heron and learn to recognize how they are different than cranes. Along the way, you may see bald eagles, hunt for star fish and sea glass, and if time permits later on, perhaps make your own jewelry from your personal discovery. These are just a few of the everyday common activities you’ll experience during this island excursion.
Tour Capital City of Charlottetown
After a brief tour of the capital city of Charlottetown (the birthplace of Canada), we’ll tour along Red Sands Shore Drive and take in its scenic beauty. We’ll take it slow and spend some time visiting small, scenic fishing harbours as we explore the southern coast of the province, all the while discovering pastoral landscapes, warm inviting waters, and red sandstone cliffs. Communities we’ll tour through today include Rice Point, Crapaud, Bedeque, Cornwall and Nine Mile Creek, all the while viewing some of the most beautiful harbours the eye can behold on the Northumberland Strait. You’ll experience the caresses of light sea breezes that help to create an inner freedom and peace while taking in the scenic beauty of unspoiled country lanes and beautiful coastline along the Northumberland Strait.
Confederation Bridge
Next, we’re off to visit Borden where there’s little doubt you’ll be awed by the sight of the 12.9 kilometer long engineering marvel known as Confederation Bridge which soars high over the Northumberland Strait. After this, we’ll stop for a photo opportunity at Chelton Point and learn the reason why you have to pay a toll when you leave the island, but not when you arrive.
We’ll stop for lunch (on your own) at Gateway Village where good food and island hospitality are found in abundance. There is a museum and a number of shops which sell island-related merchandise.
Afterwards, we’ll return to your ship using a different route to give you another opportunity to see more of the “million acre farm”.
This Private Pre-BookeD tour is fully narrated by your guide and will take an estimated 5 to 6 hours (+/-) to complete.
